Trailer Analysis - Cloverfield

The Cloverfield trailer begins and you immediately feel like you are there , due to the breakdown of the fourth wall between the characters and the audience. This is because the filmmakers used the idea that one of the characters involved in the film is recording all the events, creating an initimate screenplay.

Both of the idents for the production companies at the beginning of the trailer had an 'old TV' effect on them, mimicking the home-made video style of the film.

Bursts of Sound are used with multiple cuts to black midway through the trailer to emphasise the volume of the sound and explosions around them.

By having the end of the trailer a man saying "tonight's going to be the best night ever ", it emits a sarcastic feeling which evokes the thought that the audience might have when watching it and also the occurrences to the characters on screen.

It is aimed at an audience from 20 to 35 years old due to the young age of the characters. This is again emphasised with the urban location in New York.
