Film Editing Analysis

Bourne Supremacy

  • top lighting with added filler lights
  • 'shakey' camera work builds action
  • cuts between frames increases to add to the excitement
  • reverse shot is used as the investigator is on the phone so the audience is able to watch Bourne's movements whilst also keeping up with the storyline
  • music gradually increases in sound
  • close up of hands
  • synchronous soundtrack reflecting scene
  • contrapuntal sound, as you are able to hear the same character talking as the camera flicks between scenes

Psycho

  • low key lighting, lots of chiaroscuro created
  • closed frame
  • low angle shot of her feet
  • eye line view when entering the shower
  • point of view shot looking at the shower
  • cut to mid shot with wide view allowing the audience to see behind the character
  • close up of mystery killer as he approaches the shower screen
  • split audio edit music - scream and backing music creates drama
  • extreme close up of mouth screaming applies the screaming
  • fast cuts between shots, high speed
  • unabvle to see the whole body, leaves you to question
  • character at corner of film creating an open frame
  • slow fading between frames contrasts the previous scene
