Dance Scene Inspiration

We have been trying to find inspiration for our dance scene. This scene from skins incorporates all of the elements we want to employ:

  • A claustrophobic environment - through people dancing and intermingling together Saturated colours, most importantly reds and blues
  • Moments of clarity as characters are introduced, e.g. the continued shots of effy dancing - highlighting her presence = what we want to do with our key characters.
  • The use of strobe - again creating a chaotic environ
  • Slow-motion used, producing an alien environment

Light Testing

We made a short film in groups of four to learn how to use light and to achieve the best shooting angles. In the first scene we took advantage of natural light available tot us. Whilst in the second scene  used a key light and a fill light to achieve chiaroscuro in the shot.

Music

We were looking for deep house music for the party scene. knowing this we found a few tracks that we thought would suit and match the type of feeling we wanted to achieve We felt this song would suit our party scene very well.

This is another darker house beat we thought would go well with the 'sense of foreboding' we wanted to achieve in our scene.

Here is a dance beat from the different genre of music - drum and bass.

Animatic

This is the animatic we made of the "STROBE" storyboard. Using iMovie, we used the Ken Burns effect in slowly panning and zooming out of certain shots.
this works especially well in showing the main frame of the opening, incorporating all the key shots

Font Ideas

We created a title using motion. We chose to work with the title 'Strobe', and made it flash across the screen in a flashing glowing font. Although we made this clip very fast - I think it is relatively easy to see the word in the short time, and because of its bright, neon colouring it has the effect of the word burning in your mind.

We then tried a second version with the letters flashing on individually. this title sequence lasted longer however we were less keen on it

Idents

Icon's Ident is simplistic yet interesting. it features a single photo on a black background with plain white lettering. from looking you can tell that they may be quite an stablished production company and have been in the business a while, due to the old effect of the evident.

Molly and I loved film 4's ident as it is again simplistic but is also very quirky and modern. the famous film four logo is often shown against different backgrounds. These moving backgrounds are often in slow motion or other effects which heighten the overall effect of the ident further

Paramount implies that it is the best at what it does though the use of a mountain for its main iconic background image. The positioning of the logo is also significant as it is 'on top'.  when the ident shows the movement of the 'camera' is toward sthe mountain. Molly and I could use this idea and adapt it by possibly taking our own image of a landscape.

Hammer films, a British production company, has a very memorable ident. The use of comic book images reminds me of the Marvel ident, as it also contains changing images from their infamous comics.    The fade into solid red makes the logo stand out, with the contrast of red on black. For our own ident we could use a succession of our own images within selected font.
